College History

The College is located in the heart of Rawalpindi Cantt with adequate building and sprawling lawns.

Its evolutionary journey began in 1952 as a primary institution. The foundation stone was laid by Field Marshal Muhammad Ayub Khan on 26th February, 1952 then Commander-in-Chief of Pakistan Army.

Later upgraded to an Intermediate College in 1959 it assumed the status of a Degree College in 1963.

In 1966, under the vibrant vision of its pioneer principal Ms. Salma Masud, it emerged as a leading institution known to one and all as C.B. College under the administrative control of Cantonment Board Rawalpindi. It was after the nationalization of the colleges in 1974 that it was renamed as Federal Government Postgraduate College for Women Rawalpindi Cantt.

To facilitate the growing needs and number of students B.Sc Classes commenced in 1987 and second shift for F.A / F.Sc was initiated in 1990. In 2018, BS 4 years Programme was initiated in multiple disciplines.

Our College Building

Starting with 5 class rooms as a Primary School, adjoining building of Boys’ Primary School was taken over to meet the additional requirement of high school. A hall and some more classrooms were added as it was upgraded to intermediate level in 1959. In 1963 a canteen and a few more class rooms were added to cater the degree classes. In 1966, the Commander-in-Chief of Pakistan Army, General Muhammad Musa, H.J., H.PK., H.Q.A., donated a piece of land adjacent to the college building. This could not, however, be utilized for putting up a building until after the college came under the administrative control of the Army Education Directorate in 1977. Major construction work continued and since then the college campus now consists of the following blocks:
